New publication: The Language of Hunter-Gatherers

Behold, “The Language of Hunter-Gatherers” – a new book published this week by Cambridge University Press. Living Tongues linguists Dr. Gregory D. S. Anderson and Dr. K. David Harrison co-wrote a chapter in this volume. It is available as an eTextbook on Amazon.

Anderson and Harrison began their research on the language of Siberian hunter-gatherers over 20 years ago, trekking through remote forests with indigenous hunters like Marta Kangarayeva, to record her nearly-extinct language (Tofa) as well as her environmental knowledge.

K. David Harrison writes, “As Greg Anderson and I argue in our chapter, the deep spiritual and intellectual attachment the Tofa people have to their land is reflected in their grammar and vocabulary, constituting a unique and irreplaceable world view. Many thanks to the editors and authors of this beautiful volume.”
