About

Hazaragi is a separate standalone language of the Hazara people spoken by Hazaras on five continents: Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Australia, Europe, the USA and many other countries. Hazaragi is spoken by 12-16 Million (according to Wikipedia) people worldwide; it has a mixture of Turko-Mongolian words and loan words from (Arabic, Urdu and many other languages.) John Gulzari & Shehnaz Ali (spouse) have worked together and recorded in the dictionary both accents of Ghazni and the Quetta variations of the Hazaragi language. Most of the entry is from memory recollection, however, later, other dictionaries from various Hazara and non-Hazara linguists and lexicographers such as Dr Hafiz Sharyati (Sahar), Tariq Malistani, (Dr) Mohammad Akber Sharistani, Abbas Deljo, H. A. Yousufi, Dr Zebul Nessa Alikhan, Prof. Ali Akber Sharistani, Roman Gehring, V.A. Efimov, G.K. Dulling and Kristian Muthugalage etc. The "Hazaragi Living Dictionary" targets the Hazara diaspora (Western countries) with limited knowledge of Arabic text. Therefore, we have used the English/Roman alphabet to produce the dictionary. We will endeavour to enrich the dictionary by adding some 5000 more words shortly; we want to see the dictionary with at least 10,000 words and phrases if not more. Should you wish to contribute or provide vocabularies or feedback, we would love to hear from you! you can contact us at [email protected] and visit our website Hazaragilanguage.com.au Thank You. John Gulzari. Last updated: 10.11.2024
