Hátxa Kuin is a Panoan language native to the Ucayali region along the Curanja and Purus rivers of Peru and along the Jordão, Envira, Purus, Taruacá and Breu rivers of Brazil. Alternate names for the language include Kaxinawá/ Kashinawa/ Cashinahua and more. The term Hátxa Kuin refers to ‘The language of humans’. As of 2020, there are 5,000 speakers of Hátxa Kuin in Brazil. There were 2,420 speakers of the language in Peru according to the 2007 census. (Ethnologue). This Diccionary was created by Carlee Schulz, a prospective PhD student and a B.A. of Linguistics (Specialization in Language & Society) from UCSD in collaboration with Yube Huni Kuin, spiritual leader and Vice President of the Huni Kuin Federation of Acre, Brazil.
