About

This project involves the documentation of South African Gujarati (Gujarātī [ગુજરાત‎]). I hope this dictionary provides resource material for Gujarati language learning. As the project unfolds, more entries and refinements to current entries will appear. Background South African Gujarati is spoken by approximately 32,000 community members in South Africa and thousands of individuals among the diasporic community worldwide. This variety is undergoing language shift, particularly among the youth of the diasporic community. The compiler is working directly with speakers to record the language. If you have questions, concerns, or wish to make a contribution, please feel free to contact me. References Eberhard, David M., Gary F. Simons, & Charles D. Fennig (eds.). 2025.
