Mahasuvi

About

Mahasuvi is a Western Pahari language spoken in the Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh in India. It is a critically endangered language as the younger generation isn't learning it. Therefore, the active population speaking is drastically reducing every year. Currently, it is only being actively spoken by people above 50 years of age as the younger generation prefers Hindi and English over it. The author of this Living Dictionary is Mr. Aniket Chauhan, a Mahasuvi scholar who has been documenting his local culture and languages. The dictionary contains various dialects of Mahasuvi. The semantic domains in this Living Dictionary were tagged by Living Tongues intern Sohum Sukhtankar under the supervision of Living Tongues Program Director Anna Luisa Daigneault.
