About
Kidaw'ida is spoken in south-eastern Kenya, near the Indian Ocean. The number of speakers is between 300,00 and 400,000. It is endangered by the adoption of Kiswahili by the younger generation. There is a log of code switching with Kidaw'ida words consistently and rapidly being replaced by Kiswahili words in speaking and texting practices. The lack of written materials in Kidaw'ida places it at risk.
