Igbo

(English: /ˈiːboʊ/ EE-boh,  Igbo: Ásụ̀sụ́ Ìgbò [ásʊ̀sʊ̀ ìɡ͡bò])

is the principal native language of the Igbo people, an ethnic group from eastern Nigeria.

A standard literary language termed "general igbo" has its core foundation based on the Owerri (Isuama), Anambra (Awka) and Umuahia (Ohuhu) dialects, omitting the nasalization and aspiration of those varieties. Related Igboid languages such as Ika, Ukwuani and Ogba are dialects of Igbo.
