About

Gwich'in is an Athabaskan language spoken by the Gwich’in First Nation of Canada and Alaska Native People. The speakers live in the northeast corner of Alaska, the Yukon, and the Northwest Territories of Canada. Another name for the language is Dinjii Zhuh K'yaa.

This Living Dictionary serves as a companion to the Gwich'in Online Course, which was created in 2019 by the Doyon Foundation in partnership with 7000 Languages. The data in the dictionary comes from the units in the language course, and the data was sent to Living Tongues Institute for import to this Living Dictionary platform with permission from the team involved in the course creation.
