The Ainu language is a nearly extinct language spoken in Hokkaido, Japan and Sakhalin, Russia. The data of this dictionary comes from two research works: アイヌ語方言辞典(by Shiro Hattori) and アイヌ語の研究(by Mashiho Chiri)

The Ainu language can be divided into two major dialects: the Hokkaido dialect and the Sakhalin dialect. The Hokkaido dialect is distributed in where is now Hokkaido, Japan, including the Saru dialect, Porobetsu dialect, Obihiro dialect, Bihoro dialect, Asahikawa dialect, Nayori dialect and the Soya dialect. 

The creator of this dictionary is Jingting Shen. He is currently an intern researcher working on the comparison of Sakhalin Ainu and Hokkaido Ainu. Please contact him via email: [email protected]
