Wakhi is an endangered language spoken by less than 70,000 people in highly mountainous, neighboring regions in Afghanistan, Tajikistan, China and Pakistan. 

Classified under the "Pamiri" group of Eastern-Iranian languages, Wakhi shares features with Saka and Qumshutese, extinct languages.
