Development of the dictionary is currently led by Reggemore Marongedze. The first draft of this dictionary was created at the Zimbabwe Language Revitalization Workshop, taught by Dr. Gregory D. S. Anderson and other Living Tongues team members, which was held over three days in March 2014. It was graciously hosted by the African Languages Research Institute, University of Zimbabwe, in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Reggemore Marongedze revised 559 entries in November 2023 and the data was uploaded by Anna Luisa Daigneault and Diego Cordova Nieto at Living Tongues.
