Beginning with ku-, this noun appears to be derived from a verb, though the origin is unclear. Mesa Grande dictionary supposes it may refer to the priests' tonsure, where hair is left on the yiir "side, edge" of their head.
Kutyir would also be the nominalized form of teyir "is dull, not sharp", meaning "which is dull, the dull one"
