Lé ليه

The Coptic Root: In Coptic grammar, the preposition used to say "for" or "because of" is Ⲉⲑⲃⲉ (Ethbe) or Ⲗⲁ (La). To ask "why," Coptic dynamically combines this preposition with the question marker for "what" (Ⲉ / É).

Egyptians combined the Arabic prepositional letter Lām (لـ / meaning "for") with their beloved Coptic question vowel Ⲉ (É). Instead of using the heavy classical Arabic phrase Li-madha (لماذا), they created a sleek hybrid: Lām + É = ليه (Lé / "For what?").

The Syntax Gun: Just like the others, it drops effortlessly to the end of the sentence or stands alone as a quick, punchy exclamation: مشيت ليه؟ (Mesheet lé? / "You left why?").
