In Coptic grammar, plurals often trigger a vowel shift toward back vowels (ou / ⲟⲩ). Egyptians retained this exact plural vowel harmony shift, transforming betaac into the distinct plural form بتوع. Standard Arabic possesses no such dynamic vowel-shifting word for possession.
