agrangay

Notes

agrangay
I. n.
Lamentation; wail: A loud, sustained vocal expression of grief, loss, or anguish, often public and ritualized.

Protest; complaint: Vehement verbal objection against injustice, hardship, or offense, spoken to be heard.

II. v. To lament aloud; to wail in grief or raise a vocal protest.

Cultural note: Agrangay is not silent weeping. It demands witnesses. In wakes, it guides the dead; in public life, it demands redress. The sound itself is considered a form of claim on the community’s attention.
