Used for:

1. drinking through a straw;
2. sipping liquid directly from a spoon;
3. drawing water directly from the surface of a spring, stream, pool, or other body of water;
4. taking a small quantity of liquid into the mouth through a controlled sucking or sipping action.

SEMANTIC NOTE

The central feature of serep is inward suction. The liquid is actively drawn toward and into the mouth rather than merely poured, lapped, or taken into a beak.

When used of drinking from a spoon or directly from a body of water, serep emphasizes the careful drawing-in of liquid, often in a small or controlled amount.
