Boransan

Definition: The name of a traditional neighborhood or barangay in the border of of Sanpaskwal and Sanpidro within the town proper of Buhi, Camarines Sur.

Toponymic note: Local tradition associates Boransan with a spring or natural water source. This interpretation resembles the clearly water-related place name Boraboran, an outlying barangay of Buhi bordering Polangui.

Etymology: Possibly connected with Boie’nen borabod “natural spring; water source.” The comparison is geographically and culturally plausible because springs commonly motivate Philippine settlement names. Unlike Boraboran, however, the internal formation of Boransan cannot yet be derived securely from borabod. The name should therefore be described as traditionally associated with a spring rather than definitively translated as “place of the spring.”

Historical note: Older spellings, land records, parish documents, maps, and oral testimony from longtime residents may reveal an earlier form of the name and clarify whether its apparent connection with borabod is historical or a later folk interpretation.

Usage note: Capitalize Boransan when referring to the neighborhood.
