A reddish or reddish-brown ground-dwelling ant known in Buhi for aggressively defending its nest and inflicting a sudden, intensely burning or stinging sensation when disturbed or stepped upon. The name refers to a locally recognized kind of painfully stinging ant rather than to all red ants. It is provisionally associated with the tropical fire ant, *Solenopsis geminata*, but the species identification requires confirmation from a collected specimen or diagnostic photographs.
