Linguistic History
Cognate with Central Bikol **buskay** “cowrie; seashell,” independently documented in Bikol dictionaries and dialect studies. Compare Cebuano **búskay**, a kind of cowrie, and Hiligaynon **búskay**, “small seashells,” including shells traditionally used in children’s games. The Boie’nen **boskay** reflects the regular adaptation of /u/ to /o/ expected under the Boie’nen four-vowel system.
