Notes:
The root is bound, rather than semantically inert. Although it cannot stand alone in a sentence, its recurring association with prayer shows that it carries lexical meaning. “Lexically unproductive” should therefore be understood as not independently usable as a free word, not as lacking meaning.
Related Bikol varieties use manganam more generally for ‘pray.’ In the documented Boie’nen examples, however, the verb specifically profiles the person who leads a shared or communal prayer.
