A traditional communal earthenware drinking vessel, generally squat and wider than it is tall, tapering toward the upper and lower ends. Traditionally kept hygienic by regular exposure to heat and smoke over smoldering rice hulls, which darkens the vessel and may impart a distinctive earthy, toasted aroma and taste to the water.
