,(kira)
English: Translation
particle; associative personal marker
English: Definition
Marks a named person **together with people socially associated with that person**, especially family, household, companions, or group. Approximately **“X and family,” “X and company,” “X’s household/group.”**
Notes
Kira does not appear to be simply the plural of ki. Rather, it adds associative plurality around the named referent.
Examples
Mipontaen kami kira ki Potsoy.
“We are going to Potsoy and his companions.”
Depending on context:
“We are going to Potsoy’s family/household.”
“We are going to Potsoy’s place.”
The latter interpretation arises naturally when Potsoy and his associated group/household metonymically identifies their home.
Kira ki Potsoy adi.
“This belongs to Potsoy’s family/group.”
or:
“This belongs to Potsoy and company.”
Semantic structure
kira + ki + PERSONAL NAME
as:
ASSOCIATIVE GROUP + PERSONAL RELATION + NAME
Thus:
ki Potsoy → Potsoy as an individual relational endpoint
kira ki Potsoy → Potsoy plus his associated people
