The plant is widespread and is traditionally used for treatment of ailments by the Birhor community.

Medicinal values for: Urinary tract infections, skin diseases, piles and blood purifier.

  • Root: A decoction of the root (rehet) and rhizome is used to treat problems related to urinary complaints. They grind (rid) it in a grindstone and a half glass of this juice (ros or rasa) is consumed to combat urinary tract infections.
  • A paste prepared from the root (rehet) is applied over the skin afflicted with eczema as part of treatment.
  • Raipan helps in improving appetite.
  • Rhizome: A rhizome paste is considered good for curing piles.
  • It is also used for curing ulcers.
  • Leaf: A decoction prepared from the leaves (sakam) acts as a blood purifier.
