It is collected for use as a leafy vegetable as well as for its medicinal benefits.

Medicinal values for: skin diseases, insect bites, wounds, cold and cough, digestive problems, swelling

  • Leaf: The paste of the leaves (sakam) is applied externally on the affected body areas or skin diseases like itching, patchy skin.
  • Whole plant: The decoction of the herb as a liquid wash is useful against ulcers and is also applied externally to poisonous insect bites.
  • guma is beneficial in case of worm infestation and infected wounds.
  • A paste prepared from the whole plant is applied to the infected area helps in reducing swelling (mo).
  • The juice (ros or rasa) of the plant is a good reliever from cold (sardi rua) and cough (kʰuʔ).
  • It is also considered to provide relief from indigestion and low digestive strength.
