tulsi is a medicinal shrub and popularly known for its medicinal benefits. All the parts of the shrub are considered very useful by the Birhor community.

Medicinal values for: fever, cold and cough, respiratory diseases

  • Leaf: A decoction of the leaves (sakam) or even the fresh leaves (baleʧ sakam) are chewed (togoʧ) for relief from cold (sardi rua), fever (rua) and cough (kʰuʔ).
  • The fresh leaves (baleʧ sakam) strengthen the stomach and help in respiratory diseases.
  • Root: The crushed (kʰeʧaʔ) root (rehet) is boiled (hõɽeʧ) with turmeric powder (sasaŋ lubuʔ) and consumed to prevent contraction of respiratory diseases.
