The tree has been a useful source for medicine for the Birhor community in Jharkhand.

Medicinal values for: eczema, bleeding gum and toothache and burns.

  • Bark: A paste prepared from the bark (baklaʔ) is applied over the skin affected with eczema.
  • A decoction of bark (baklaʔ) is used for gargling (gaɽgaɽao) to cure bleeding gums and toothache (ɖaʈa hasu).
  • Leaf: Dried leaf powder (rohoɽ sakam lubuʔ) is sprinkled (ʧʰiʈkawaj-mi) over fresh wounds and cuts to stop bleeding.
  • A paste prepared from leaves (sakam) is applied over wounds and injury caused due to contact with fire.
