Dola daru is a multi-purpose tree, supplying food and medicine to the Birhor community. 

Medicinal values for: wounds and ulcers (of cattle), itchiness, pain, skin diseases

  • Leaf: Young leaves (baleʧ sakam) are cooked in soup and served with rice.
  • Seed: Oil (sunum) is extracted from the seed (dʒaŋ) which has both edible and medicinal uses.
  • The residue after the extraction of oil (sunum) from its seeds (dʒaŋ) is used as a manure (kʰad).
  • Powdered (lubuʔ) seeds (dʒaŋ) are applied to wounds and ulcers of cattle to remove maggots.
  • The oil (sunum) is applied externally to cure itching (babat), aches and other skin infections.
  • Bark: A paste prepared from the bark (baklaʔ) is used against skin inflammation and ulcers.
