This shrubby plant has been used as traditional medicinal by the Birhor community. Mainly the roots, but also the leaves and latex, are commonly used as traditional medicine.

Medicinal values for: appetite loss, skin diseases, piles, swelling and rheumatic joints

  • Root: A decoction prepared by the root (rehet) is used for treatment of appetite loss.
  • A paste prepared by the root (rehet) is used for treatment of skin diseases.
  • The paste is mixed with camphor and kerosene and is applied on the infected area to cure piles.
  • The paste is also applied externally to swellings and rheumatic joints for relief.
