The plant and its extracts have been long used by the Birhor community for several traditional medicinal treatments.

Medicinal values for: Muscle and joint pains, snake bites and scorpion stings, male infertility

  • Seed: The powdered seed (dʒaŋ) is very beneficial and used for the treatment of muscle and joint pains.
  • A decoction of seeds is also considered as a cure for worm infestations.
  • A paste prepared from the seeds (dʒaŋ) is used as an antivenom against snake bites and scorpion stings.
  • A powder (lubuʔ) of the seeds (dʒaŋ) is very useful to cure male infertility.

Culinary use

  • Fruit: they boil (hõɽeʧ) them and cook them by mixing spices with the fruit (dʒo).
