The plant is used as a food with medicinal benefits by the Birhor community.

Medicinal values for: Cold and cough, stomach disorders and worms.

  • Fruit: The decoction prepared from the fruit (dʒo) is used to cure cough (kʰuʔ).
  • The young fruits (dʒo) are edible and used for curing stomach disorders also. It is considered useful to kill worms in the stomach.
  • Root: Pounded roots (rehet) are applied to cracks in the feet.
  • Leaf: The powder (lubuʔ) of the leaves (sakam) after having been dried (rohoɽ) in the shade is mixed (mesa) with hot water (dʰipao daʔ) and administered orally for relief from colds (sardi rua) and coughs (kʰuʔ).
