The popro daru tree has great medicinal importance to the Birhor community. 

  • Medicinal values for: snakebites, skin diseases, stomach problems, heartburn, constipation, caries (cavities in teeth)
  • Leaf: Pounded (ruruŋ) young leaves (baleʧ sakam) are used to cure snakebites.
  • Bark: Used against skin diseases. Pounded (ruruŋ) bark (baklaʔ) in water (daʔ) is also used to cure stomach troubles, heart burn and constipation.
  • The crushed (kʰeʧaʔ) stem bark (ɖãʈiʧ baklaʔ) is boiled (hõɽeʧ) in water (daʔ) and applied to treat caries (cavities in teeth).
  • Root: The root (rehet) part is taken to treat heavy bleeding during the menstrual cycle (kiʧriʔ kana).
