About
Alsea is a Coast Oregon Penutian language with two dialects, Alsea proper and Yaquina. The last native speaker died in 1942, John Albert, who was interviewed by John Peabody Harrington. It is spoken in the central coast of Oregon, around Newport. Alsea people have been incorporated into the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians.
