This particular recording almost sounds like 'is, which would be "I sneeze", from verb wis (wiis), "sneezes". In other instances within the same recording, Ames is clearly saying ill or 'ill, "worm". Unfortunately, the recording has no transcript, so we do not know for certain which word the speaker was going for.
