Described by Mesa Grande dictionary as "oak [that] produces very large acorns", and by Herman Osuna as "oak with big acorns, lives in the mountains". Most likely the Canyon oak.
Name may be derived from 'etay ('etaay) "is big" (verb common outside of 'Iipay)
Barona dictionary describes as "white oak with big acorns" and associates with Engelmann oak, however the Engelmann oak does not have large acorns and does not grow in the high mountains, and is usually called neshaaw.
