Definition

The Boie’nen phoneme /G/ is a voiced velar stop [g]. It is produced by complete closure between the back of the tongue and the velum (soft palate), followed by a release of air pressure. It is a fully contrastive consonant and forms part of the core consonant inventory of Boie’nen.

Unlike the phoneme /X/, which is a posterior continuant with uninterrupted airflow, /G/ is characterized by complete oral closure and a brief plosive release.
