A traditional winnowing process used to separate chaff from freshly threshed rice grains, leveraging natural wind or breeze. This technique involves scooping grains into a typically 2-feet diameter bamboo tray (nigo) held at shoulder height, then gradually pouring the grains down in a curtain-like stream through a gentle to-and-fro jerking motion. As the grains fall, the wind blows away the chaff, separating it from the heavier grains, which collect in a neat pile, often at the feet of the winnower.
