kanʈe aɽaʔ is a small or medium-sized tree with traditional medical importance for the Birhor community. 

Medicinal values for: gastric problems, mumps, diarrhoea, stomachache, dysentery

  • Leaf: leaves (sakam) are chewed (togoʧ) and eaten for gastric disorders.
  • Pastes prepared from leaves (sakam) are applied on mumps to reduce pain and inflammation.
  • A powder (lubuʔ) prepared from the leaves (sakam) is mixed (mesa) in water (daʔ) and given to patients for relief from diarrhoea.
  • Root: Root (rehet) juice (ros or rasa) used against stomachaches is advisable.
  • Fruit: Dried fruits (rohoɽ dʒo) lessen pain due to boils and are also used against dysentery.
