Several parts of the tree have nutritional values and health benefits for the Birhor community. The raw/unripe (berel) and ripe (paka) fruit (dʒo) is edible.

Medicinal values for: fever, stomach problems, skin diseases, boils, wounds, inflammation, mumps

  • Root: A decoction prepared from root (rehet) extracts is used to treat fever (rua), stomach problems and skin diseases.
  • Leaf: A paste prepared from the leaves (sakam) is applied externally on the boils and wounds for relief from pain and to make a fast recovery.
  • Bark: The bark (baklaʔ) is used as poultice and applied for relief from soreness and inflammation.
  • Latex: The latex (ʤer) is applied on the infected area of the person suffering from mumps and then covered with a piece of cloth (dʒʰula).
