ʧoke aɽaʔ is used as a culinary vegetable and as a medicinal herb.

Medicinal values for: Skin problems, insect bites

  • Leaf:* Paste prepared from the leaves (sakam) is also used in skin treatments for a wide spectrum of skin conditions as an anti-inflammatory agent, particularly in eczema, and against minor itching and insect bites.

Culinary use: The Birhor prefer to add it to food, and ʧoke aɽaʔ is eaten either as a cooked leafy vegetable (aɽaʔ) or chutney (smashed / ground up (rid) into a paste mixed with various species like garlic (rasun), chili (marʧej)).

They also believe that consumption of ʧoke aɽaʔ keeps their stomach cool and helps in improving the digestive system.
