These perennial climbers are used by the Birhor community, both as a source of food and as a plant with medicinal benefits.
The Birhor community eat it after roasting it in a fire.
Medicinal values for: joint pains, snakebites, scorpion stings, poor appetite, toothache.
- Tuber: A paste prepared from the tubers (da) is used externally against swelling and joint pains by applying it on the joints if there is any discomfort, aches, and soreness.
- In case of snakebites and scorpion stings, the paste is applied on the wound and around the area.
- The tubers (da) are eaten for the treatment of poor appetite.
- Root: The root (rehet) of the plant is chewed to cure toothache (ɖaʈa hasu).
