This is a well-known flowering plant celebrated for medicinal benefits among the community. Only the roots and leaves are considered the useful parts of the plant.

Medicinal values for: snake and insect bites, headache, ulcers and inflammations, fever, diarrhoea, urinary problems, stomach ailments

  • Root: The roots (rehet) of the plant are ground up (rid) into a paste and used as a cure for snake and insect bites. The paste is applied externally on the bitten area.
  • It is also considered a very good cure for headaches (bohoʔ hasu).
  • The paste is usually used for the treatment of ulcers and inflammations.
  • A decoction is considered to bring down fever (rua).
  • The root (rehet) is astringent, bitter and is also used for the treatment of diarrhoea.
  • Leaf: The leaves (sakam) are used in the treatment of stomach and urinary problems.
