Adi is a very popular spice used worldwide. It can be used for a variety of food or medicine items. The Birhor also use adi in tea.

Medicinal values for: stomach upset, sore throat and vomiting.

Rhizome: The rhizome is peeled and cleaned and kept in the mouth as a treatment for cough (kʰuʔ). The warm, pungent and peppery bite gives immediate relief from cough (kʰuʔ). It also helps with digestion and stomach upset ailments. 

A decoction prepared from the rhizome is taken with warm water as a remedy for sore throat or throat infections. 

A paste prepared from the rhizome is applied to sprained and swollen areas. This results in relief from pain and the swelling is reduced. 

Juice (ros or rasa) from the rhizome mixed (mesa) with lemon juice (lẽmbo ros or rasa) is taken to stop vomiting (ula).
