This weed is not used for edible purposes, but it has some medicinal benefits identified by the Birhor community.

Medicinal values for: cough, headache, dysentery, cuts, wounds, skin diseases, toothaches

  • Plant: A decoction prepared from the plant is used for cough (kʰuʔ), headache and stomach disorder (dysentery).
  • Leaf: The crushed (kʰeʧaʔ) leaves (sakam) spread over cuts and wounds help to stop bleeding.
  • A paste prepared from the leaves (sakam) is also used for the treatment of skin disease.
  • The leaves (sakam) are considered as a remedy for toothache (ɖaʈa hasu).
