The tree has both edible as well as medicinal uses for the community. Roots, leaves, flowers, fruits and the seed-oil are all edible portions of the plant.
Medicinal values for: tumors, stomach ailments, cuts and wounds, dysentery
- Leaf: A paste prepared from the leaves (sakam) is considered a cure if applied on a tumor.
- A decoction prepared by the leaves (sakam) is taken to cure loose stools.
- Bark: A paste prepared from the bark (baklaʔ) is applied over cuts and wounds.
- Root: A paste of the root (rehet) is to be given twice a day for curing abdominal pain generally due to dysentery.
Other use:
- Wood: The wood (sahan) is used in making planks (dirkʰa), benches, or beds (parkom).
