sindwar daru is a popular herbal treatment supplement used to treat a variety of health problems. It also helps keep a variety of insects at bay.
Medicinal value for: Menopause, conjunctivitis, insect repellents, body ache, muscular pain, migraines, headache
Bark: The bark (baklaʔ) is boiled (hõɽeʧ) in milk (towa) and is taken to cure body ache and muscular pain.
Seed: It is believed by the community that sindwar daru may enhance fertility in humans. A paste from the seed (dʒaŋ) and leaves (sakam) is also given to women to reduce menopause symptoms. This also eases symptoms like constipation, irritability, depressed mood or migraines during menstrual cycles.
Leaf: Fresh leaves (baleʧ sakam) are rubbed in the hands and the odour is inhaled to cure headaches (bohoʔ hasu). While leaves (sakam) are boiled in a mud pot, the eyes are brought in contact with the steam to cure conjunctivitis.
Interesting fact: Dried leaves (rohoɽ sakam) of sindwar daru are burned and the fumes may also offer protection against insects, particularly mosquitoes, flies, ticks and fleas.
A paste made from the seeds (dʒaŋ) helps repel insects for a few hours. It is basically used by the community hunters while hunting to stay calm and quiet when traps are set.
